Yay! Tomorrow is San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair, the world’s largest leather event, and probably my favorite day of the year. Yes, better than Christmas and better than my birthday. On this day, kinksters of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations come out of the dungeons and proudly strut their stuff on the streets, celebrating their lifestyles– and the Mayor of the city actually welcomes us!

In the last couple of weeks, due to opportunities for modeling gigs, I’ve had to change my play.  I’ve had to negotiate scenes with the strict rule of “leave no marks”. And that’s a hard thing for me- because I really do enjoy having big purple bruises and red welts, and I bruise quite easily.  These marks are reminders of ‘what a great scene you just had’, for days to come.  And sometimes, for me, they serve as a badge of courage, to remind me how strong I was in a scene.

In this low economic period, it may seem unfathomable to spend extra money on toys or special equipment to beat and torture your play partners with– (I have been drooling over “The Mop“,  but won’t be able to rationalize buying it for quite some time to come!).   BUT- you can find some interesting ideas for toys and torture implements in some unexpected places!

Some of my favorite toys came from kitchen stores, dollar stores, and hardware stores.  I have 5 metal guitar finger pics that I picked up for cheap at Guitar Center and sharpened.

One nasty implement I’ve formed a love/hate relationship with is a stainless steel spatula covered in silicone- found at Ikea for 97 cents.    

I’ve also incorporated items like coat hangers, wooden spoons, hair brushes, plastic hair clips, and clothes pins into play.  All of which you can get very cheaply at a dollar store.  Items such as rope, chain, clamps, carabiners are always handy and found at any hardware store.

Now, walking through such stores with my play partner has become a form of foreplay for me!
